Daniel advises clients in a wide range of civil, commercial and regulatory disputes.  He has acted in large scale and complex civil and criminal litigation, including for listed companies, local government and large charities.  He has particular expertise in contract, professional negligence, insurance, and charities disputes, including involving incorporated societies.  Prior to joining Gilbert Walker, Daniel was an associate in Bell Gully’s litigation team, and a Judges’ Clerk at the Auckland High Court.

  • acting for a large professional service firm in relation to an allegation of professional negligence concerning complex tax advice

  • acting for a private individual charged by the New Zealand Serious Fraud Office along with seven others (including a former MP) in relation to donations made to New Zealand’s major political parties

  • acting for a large charity in proceedings alleging breach of trust and breach of contract, and advising on strategies relating to a significant media campaign against the client

  • acting for an acquiring authority in precedent-setting litigation under the Public Works Act concerning the Auckland City Rail Link

  • acting for a large energy company in an injunction proceeding brought by another industry participant

  • acting for a listed company in a complex insurance dispute concerning a carpark damaged in the Kaikōura earthquake in November 2016
