Stephen Hunter

Stephen Hunter holds a B.A./LL.B.(Hons.) from the University of Auckland and an LL.M. from Harvard. He was admitted to the New Zealand Bar in 1998 and has broad experience in civil and commercial litigation, including contract disputes, company and securities litigation, professional negligence and judicial review. He is a member of the New York Bar and is admitted as a solicitor advocate in England and Wales. Stephen graduated top of his year at Auckland Law School and received numerous academic awards including the Auckland District Law Society's Prize as the student with the best overall undergraduate record, the J.P. Campbell Prize for the top student in the final year and the Geoffrey Powell Prize as winner of the school's advocacy competition. He received a Fulbright Scholarship to study at Harvard Law School in 2001 to 2002. Stephen served as a judges' clerk at the New Zealand Court of Appeal from 1998 to 1999 and was in practice at Russell McVeagh and at Herbert Smith in London before joining Gilbert Walker in 2006. He became a partner of the firm in April 2008. Stephen lectures in constitutional law at the law faculty of the University of Auckland.
